In view of growing banking business in Nepal, it has been felt necessary to establish an Association for collective efforts and participation of the banks to establish and enhance the interrelationship and co-ordination among the commercial banks incorporated in Nepal in order to develop a fair and healthy competition among the banks, to maintain uniformity in the policy and procedures of loan and other banking transactions, to develop and adopt creative and modern technology.
To make the banks more effective and efficient, and to identify the problems and implement the remedies associated with the business of the banks, and institution with the name " Nepal Bankers' Association" has been established under the Institution Registration Act, 2034.
25 April, 2017 - Nepal Bankers' Association, in coordination with Quantum Data Engines, hosted a program on “AML Compliance: Key elements in selecting a comprehensive AML system” where NBA had invited concerned officials from its member banks to the program.

24 April 2017 - Nepal Bankers' Association in coordination with UNCDF (UNNATI - Access to Finance) organized a one-and-half day residential training program on "Financial Cooperatives Assessment Tool" on 24-25 April, 2017. The tool was developed in-line with the requirement of BFIs to meet wholesale lending and the main purpose of the tool is to support the BFIs in assessing cooperative to undertake credit assessment/rating of Cooperatives to improve the performance of wholesale lending to them and ultimately increase their agriculture portfolio.

Feb 1, 2017 – Nepal Bankers’ Association organized an interaction program on “Prevailing Situation in the Banking Sector & Way Forward". The program highlighted current scenario in the banking sector – mainly focusing on the lack of “lendable funds” at the banks.
