Nepal Bankers’ Association (NBA) organized a virtual session titled “Climate Risk, Resilience and Finance: What Recent Events Mean for Nepal’s Banking Sector” as part of NBA’s Community of Practice (CoP) on Sustainable Finance.
The session was led by Mr. Einar Telnes, Counsellor for Renewable Energy and Climate at the Embassy of Norway in Nepal. Mr. Telnes is a climate, energy and international development expert with more than three decades of experience in climate finance, renewable energy, carbon markets and international development.
Mr. Telnes discussed the evolving climate-risk landscape and its implications for Nepal, with particular emphasis on how physical climate risks can translate into financial risks for banks. The discussion covered the potential implications of extreme weather events, as well as the importance of strengthening resilience and adopting forward-looking approaches to climate-risk management.
The session also explored the opportunity dimension of climate change and the role of the banking sector in supporting Nepal’s transition towards a greener and more climate-resilient economy.
The CoP on Sustainable Finance is part of NBA’s ongoing efforts to provide a common platform for officials from member banks to enhance knowledge, exchange experiences and discuss emerging issues related to sustainable finance and climate-related developments.
