Knowledge-Sharing Session on Sustainable Finance: Lessons from Bangladesh

As part of Nepal Bankers’ Association (NBA’s) Community of Practice (CoP) on Sustainable Finance, a virtual knowledge-sharing session was organized on “Advancing Sustainable Finance: Experience and Lessons from Bangladesh.”

The session was led by Mr. Ahmed Zubaer Mahbub, Additional Director, Bangladesh Bank, who shared insights from Bangladesh’s sustainable finance journey and highlighted key developments undertaken by the Bangladesh Bank to integrate sustainability considerations into the banking and financial sector.

Mr. Mahbub discussed Bangladesh’s experience in areas including sustainable and green finance, climate finance, climate-related risks, environmental and social risk management, sustainability-related financial disclosures and the opportunities on sustainable finance. He also shared perspectives on Bangladesh’s implementation of Sustainability and Climate-Related Financial Disclosures aligned with IFRS S1 and IFRS S2. A key area of discussion was the importance of creating an enabling environment for banks to increase sustainable financing.

The session was part of NBA’s CoP on Sustainable Finance, a platform to strengthen the capacity of its member banks and facilitate knowledge sharing and peer learning on emerging issues in sustainable finance.
